Shepherd Farm is a warmblood breeding farm located 15 miles north of Washington, DC. Each year, our broodmare band of Elite Hanoverian and Premium Oldenburg mares produce a few quality foals for dressage and hunters. We handle our foals from birth so that when they leave our Farm they are well socialized and on their way to becoming amateur riding partners and professional competition horses. Shepherd Farm also offers clients an on-site Broodmare Lease Program where you can lease one of our elite broodmares for the breeding season. The mare remains in the care of Shepherd Farm during the lease term and we train your foal until weaning.
Shepherd Farm is home to the Grand Illusion Horse Rescue, Inc. Named after our first thoroughbred rescue horse, our Rescue is dedicated to rehabilitating and adopting out former race horses, PMU mares, and BLM mustangs. Our Rescue also lovingly cares for a few special permanent residents who will remain with us for the rest of their lives. Our Rescue sponsors a Youth Ranch on the weekends for children in need in Montgomery County, Maryland. At the Ranch, we teach children about horse care, safety and riding.
Shepherd Farm is named after our beloved dog breed — the German Shepherd. We currently share our home with five loyal and intelligent Shepherds.
