Shepherd Farm Celebrates the Birth of our First Foal of the Season – Quadrinity.
At 6:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011, Quadrinity (barn name Nina) was born. Quadrinity, named after the integration of emotion, spirit, mind, and body, is a beautiful leggy filly who has that special combination of sweetness and courage. Nina and Wramona Q were especially well-bonded in those first moments of life. Nina is by the powerful Canadian Trakehner eventing stallion Tagaelen. In 2003, at the prestigious Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, Tagaelen won the Governor’s General Cup and was the Grand Champion Sport Horse. Tagaelen is owned by Kelley Willemze of Tiered Response Trakehners.

Shepherd Farm’s Grand Illusion Horse Rescue encourages you to attend the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Adoption on July 16th and 17th in Harrington, DE.
- This year, the BLM is having their summer adoption in Harrington, DE which is just a few hours from central Maryland. We have attended several BLM adoptions and encourage you to consider attending. These adoption events give you an excellent opportunity to learn about the care and feeding of wild horses and burros, see adopted mustangs who are now performing as hunters or barrel racers, and maybe to bring home a new mustang or burro of your own. The adoption fee for horses and burros ranges from $25 to $125 (this is not a typo!). Now more than ever mustangs and burros need adoptive homes. The BLM has changed its policy on providing for the wild horses and burros and the economy has made it more difficult for people to take on an additional horse. The Grand Illusion Horse Rescue adopted our mustang Winne in 2005 and our sweet burro Dapple in 2008. They are both wonderful additions to Shepherd Farm. The BLM brochure provides all the contact information for the July event. Help save a life!

Shepherd Farm is thrilled to welcome Some Day Soon Farm’s Hanoverian Broodmare Weltmarlina into our Breeding Program in June 2010.
Weltmarlina, a 1998 Hanoverian broodmare came to Shepherd Farm in June 2010. Weltmarlina was imported from Germany as a yearling by Suzanne Quarles of Some Day Soon Farm. Weltmarlina is an impeccably bred Hanoverian mare by Weltmeyer and out of Bodega by Brentano II. Brentano II was a champion stallion at Verden in 1985 as a 2 year old. He is by the famous sire Bolero who was a foundation Hanoverian sire who passed on to his progeny nobility, lovely gaits, and a talent for dressage. One of Brentano’s successful dressage offspring is the mare Brentina who won the individual and team gold at the Panamerican Games in 1999, and who in 2001 achieved the highest grand prix score ever by an American horse. We will be breeding Weltmarlina to Hilltop Farm’s Royal Prince this season.

Memorial Day 2010 welcomes Shepherd Farm’s third foal of the season.
Congratulations to Rachel Rosenfeld of Doc’s Haven Farm, LLC in Poolesville, Maryland on the birth of this stunning leggy Hanoverian filly by ES Welcome and out of Shepherd Farm’s Dartmouth. Dartmouth gave birth to this precious filly at 3:05 a.m. on Monday, May 31, 2010. Rachel has appropriately named her filly “Wonderful Holiday” – as her wonderful filly was born on Memorial Day. Dartmouth was very gentle and patient in sharing her new filly with all the holiday visitors of the day.

Shepherd Farm hosts “Foal Watch” on Memorial Day Weekend.
This Holiday weekend, many friends came to the Farm to visit with our two lovely fillies: Davignana (Always Katelyn 2010) and Eve (Farethewel 2010). The foals loved the extra attention. Little did everyone know that when they left the Farm on Sunday, that a third filly would join the “filly band” in the wee hours of Monday morning. We are thrilled and grateful to have three healthy fillies prancing in the paddocks this Spring.

Shepherd Farm celebrates the birth of Treveri’s granddaughter Little Eve.
We are thrilled to report that at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15th, Farethewel gave birth to a beautiful bay Hanoverian filly by ES Loerke who we named Little Eve after our beloved foundation mare Tr”eve”ri. Remarkably, Eve looks just like her grandmother Treveri. She is a black bay filly with a gorgeous feminine head and lovely conformation. This was a very challenging delivery for us. Farethewel had developed significant edema in the 48 hours before delivery and had such discomfort in her hind legs that she opted for a standing delivery. We obliged and cradled Eve until she was fully born and ready to be smothered in kisses by her very good mom. Treveri is surely smiling on us now.

Shepherd Farm has our first foal of 2010 on Mother’s Day.
Congratulations to Claudia Mucklow of Charlotte, Vermont on the birth of this beautiful DaCaprio filly. She is a stunning blood bay filly with a white star and two hind socks. She was born on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010 at 10:25 p.m. to our lovely Premium Oldenburg mare Always Katelyn. The little filly was nursing and scampering about in her stall in the first hour of life. It helped I am sure that sweet Katie had bathed her in kisses as soon as Katie could reach around and nuzzle her. A great Mother’s Day gift for all.
